Make an Investment in Your Health
A new year is here and full of new hope. Many believe 2009 is full of uncertainty, which brings a degree of stress that can affect our health. We may not be able to control what will happen in the world, but we can take control of our health. As a 10-year Pilates practitioner, I have learned a few tricks to help you make exercise a part of your lifestyle. First of all, RIGHT NOW is the time to begin an exercise program. Do not wait because you think you should lose weight first, become more fit, or don't have the time. JUST START.
Make an appointment in ink with someone other than yourself.
Call a friend and set up a time to go for a walk, an make another date before the walk is over. Set up a regular day 2 or 3 times a week. It will become a habit that you will look forward to, and more important, a regular appointment you will keep. I have a few walking partners who I meet with on a regular basis. We choose different locations for a scenery change. The time passes quickly during our walks as we yak, solving problems, venting or just talking about our dogs.
Sign up for a class. When you make that appointment at a health club, dance, yoga, or pilates studio, you will be more likely to keep it because they will be expecting you. As you attend on a regular basis, you will make acquaintances and look forward to participating in the class with your workout buddies.
Any movement is good for your body. It can reduce stress, decrease your blood pressure and blood sugar, strengthen your heart, increase your endurance and lighten your mood.
If you haven't experienced Pilates, it is an excellent form of exercise. It addresses many issues such as balance, flexibility, osteoporosis, scoliosis, and strength. Just Breathe Pilates is a private studio focusing on the individual. We offer many classes that can fit into your schedule. Even one Pilates class per week can enhance your regular activities such as cycling, running, walking, tennis, dancing, swimming or golf, by creating more range of motion, flexibility and core strength.
Getting healthy and staying healthy is the goal. Make an investment in your health and you will always get a positive return.
